In the late 1980’s a self-proclaimed healer by the name of Allan Chumak entered into the collective conscience of Soviet Union via broadcast television. Despite the regime of enforced secularity at the time, Chumak gained widespread notoriety through his remote healing sessions. Through film and installation, Tuleubek explores this phenomenon as a catalyst leading to the diffusion of “alternative” belief systems in the post Soviet Bloc by reenacting the choreography of the healer’s bodily gestures performed by the dancer Mina Weider, and instructed by the artist/designer Ida Falck Øien.
